Equal parts punk, new wave and guitar pop, Blondie found a unique place in music during the late 70s and early 80s. They were able to gain mainstream appeal while maintaining a level of underground edge. And their pinnacle third album Parallel Lines is a choice example of that.
Fronted by Deborah Harry, a true icon of the era, the band fused raw attitude with charmingly fun melodies. From the dreamlike aura of "Picture This" to the beautiful rawkus of "Will Anything Happen?" to the disco-inspired "Heart of Glass," Blondie's genre-strattling was pure genius, most importantly because their sound relied on no specific formula.
