Ingrid Bergman, who was discovered by producer David O. Selznick in the Swedish film Intermezzo, had a definite and immediate impact on Hollywood. With her delicate sexuality and aura of sophistication, she was of a new breed of great Hollywood actress whose style was not heavily influenced by the stage. Although the Academy Awards gave Bergman two Best Actress statuettes for her roles in Gaslight and Anastasia, her most memorable performances were in major classics like Casablanca and Notorious.
