MP3: THE MORNING AFTER GIRLS

"Hi Skies". This psychedelic rock-n-roll band from Melbourne just released their Prelude EP 1 & 2 stateside. Screeching vocals don't get much catchier than the ones on this track. (TheMorningAfterGirls.com)

MP3: DANGERDOOM

"Mince Meat". Danger Mouse and MF Doom's collaborative effort The Mouse and the Mask hits stores on Oct. 11. The album's inspiration comes from Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, which provides this MP3 on their website. (Adult Swim)

STREAM: FIONA APPLE

Extraordinary Machine. After years of delays, Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine is finally hitting stores next week. The entire final version the album can be streamed now on her MySpace page. Decide for yourself if it was worth all the wait. (MySpace Music)

MP3: HER SPACE HOLIDAY

If you haven't yet picked up a copy of The Past Presents the Future, the latest album from Her Space Holiday that was released yesterday, then here are three tracks they offer for free on their website. The electronic indie pop band uniquely blends musical styles into a smooth, dreamy mix.(HerSpaceHoliday.com)

"Forever and a Day"
"The Weight of the World"
"A Match Made in Texas"

MP3: METRIC

Lend an ear to these two tracks from Metric's upcoming release Live It Out. Emily Haines is a great lead vocalist. However, it seems that yet again the band's failed to set themselves apart from other female-fronted alternative artists. While I find both of these songs quite enjoyable, they should expect every Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Breeders comparison they get. Of course, there are worse bands they could be compared to. (Last Gang)

"Monster Hospital"
"Poster of a Girl"

MP3: CALLA

"It Dawned on Me." Here's a song from Brooklyn's Calla that's a dark, atmospheric mesh of garage rock and post-rock. It's from their just-released album Collisions. (Insound)

MP3: 31KNOTS

"Chain Reaction,"
a track from the atmospheric Portland band's upcoming album Talk Like Blood. (Polyvinyl)

MP3: DEVENDRA BANHART

"Quedate Luna," from one indie rock's favorite singer/songewriters, off his already released Cripple Crow. (Amazon)

MP3: CASTANETS

"All That I Know". Castanets' Raymond Raposa created a masterfully unpredictable and delicate sound on last year's Cathedral. His follow-up effort, First Light's Freeze is out in a couple weeks. Hope this track tides you over until then. (Asthmatic Kitty)

MP3: THE CLIENTELE

The Clientele offer up the somber side of Brit pop on these two tracks from their newest album Strange Geometry. Their sound is an unbashed flashback to the '60s British invasion and their atmospheric Beatles-meets-Zero-7 approach gives it a fresh spin. (Audiofile / Merge)

"Since K Got Over Me"
"(I Can't Seem to) Make You Mine"

MP3: ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN

"Stormy Weather". Tomorrow, alterna-legends Echo and the Bunnymen are back with their first album since 2001. Reviews have said that the indie pioneers have returned their roots. And so far, I agree. This fine track sounds straight out of the '80s. (Toolshed)

Not Them You. Listen to Lake Trout's newly released album on Palm. (LakeTrout.com)

MP3: THE CONSTANTINES

"Love in Fear". This new track from the Toronto band's Tournament of Hearts, out on Oct. 11, pulls inspiration from Peter Gabriel's early solo days. (Insound)

MP3: TIM FITE

On these two downloads off the new album Gone Ain't Gone, singer/songwriter purees genres into sweet, dense smoothies -- natural blends with a little bit of kick to 'em. (Anti-)

"No Good Here"
"Forty-five Remedies"

MP3: DEERHOOF

"Wrong Time Capsule". Deefhoof's gentle oddity has slowly moved them into indie rock's top tier. Their 2004 release Milk Man especially brought deserved attention to the San Francisco noise pop band. The follow-up, The Runners Four, streets on Oct. 11, but here's a track that hints that the band's momentum will push on. (Kill Rock Stars)

MP3: THE LIVING THINGS

"Bom Bom Bom". Jive Records, home to the dead careers of pop stars like Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, is also home for The Living Things. The St. Louis band -- at least on this track from next month's Ahead of the Lions -- sounds a lot like '90s alternapoppers The Soup Dragons. Gee, are the '90s due for a retro revival already? (LivingThingsMusic.com)

MP3: OOIOO

"Grow Sound Tree". The ladies of Japan's OOIOO share their gorgeously experimental take on post rock with this track from their latest release Gold and Green. It's music that at times sounds like a simple score to a fantastical children's play one moment and then deftly moves into chaotic layers of distorted voices, jangly guitars and whisping chimes. Thrill Jockey proves once again they are still a major authority on structureless rock music. (Insound)

MP3: BLACKALICIOUS

"Your Move (featuring Life Savas)," a track from Blackalicious' upcoming release The Craft that combines the group's old-school quick raps with early '80s funk and dose of dirty south. (Anti-)

MP3: DIOS (MALOS)

"Feels Good Being Somebody". Like their hometown heroes The Beach Boys, Hawthorne, CA's Dios (Malos) is all about the challenge of creating good pop song unconventionally. This track is from their self-titled album out on Star Time on Oct. 11. (Filter)

MP3: CHIN UP CHIN UP

"Collide the Tide," a sunny track from the Chicago avant-pop band's self-titled EP (out now on Flameshovel Records). (ChinUpChinUp.com)

MP3: EL TEN ELEVEN

"Lorge". L.A.'s El Ten Eleven are a two-man band who've created their own distinct version post-rock. Using only bass, drums and foot pedals, their music is uniquely lush. And word is they are pretty amazing is concent. Their self-titled album is out on Bar/None on Sept. 20.(ElTenEleven.com)

MP3: GIANT DRAG

"Kevin is Gay". Judging from this track off their full-length debut on Kickball records (out on Tuesday), Giant Drag singer Annie Hardy's sound is like a pleasant mix between Tanya Donnelly and Karen O. The music is equally bipolar: Aggressive dream pop I think is the best way to sum it up. (betterPropaganda)

MP3: EARLY MAN

"Evil Is". When Matador goes metal, they don't mess around. We're not talking about Andrew WK-style hair metal here. Columbus, OH's Early Man is more influenced by Judas Priest and Minor Threat than Poison and Motley Crue. This track appears on their upcoming release Closing In. (Matador)

MP3: DIRTY THREE

"Doris". Post-rock veterans Dirty Three are back with their seventh album Cinder on October 11. The indie instumentalists prove their consistency on this newly available preview track. (Toolshed)

Harmonies for the Haunted. The album won't be in stores until next week, but you can stream it in its entirety now on VH1.com.

MP3: NINJA HIGH SCHOOL

This campy Canadian band labels their sound as "positive hardcore dance-rap." It's an accurate description. They're kind of like this decade's version of the Bloodhound Gang or Fun Lovin' Criminals. Only the tunes are much catchier and the wit is a bit more sophisticated than mere irony. These tracks are from their upcoming record Young Adults Against Suicide. (NinjaHighSchool.info)

"By Purpose Not By Plan (Sex Nerds Mix)"
"Shake It Off"

MP3: AMY RIGBY

"Dancing With Joey Ramone". Amy Rigby received the most acclaim of her career with her debut album Diary of a Mod Housewife nearly a decade ago, but her heartfelt wit has helped maintain the artist a certain amount of respect ever since. This track is from her latest offering Little Fugitive, which is in stores now. (Audiofile)

MP3: CLUE TO KALO

"As Tommy Fixes Fights". One Way, It's Every Way from Mark Mitchell's Clue to Kalo will be in stores on the 20th of this month. The layers of echoey harmonies on this album track will clue you in to what the artist is all about. (Dirty Loop)

MP3: SOUND DIRECTIONS

Madlib goes funky with his side-project Sound Directions, an off-shoot of Yesterday's New Quintet. These two tracks are from The Funky Side of Life, which will be released in early October. The album is a collaboration with several jazz, funk and R&B artists. (Stones Throw)

"The Horse"
"The Funky Side of Life"

MP3: EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY

"Look into the Air." Before they broke through the indie atmosphere with Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever, Explosions in The Sky recorded How Strange, Innocence. The album gets its first proper release -- it was recorded on CD-Rs the first time around -- on Oct. 11. Hopefully the rest sounds as beautiful as this unburied post-rock treasure. (Temporary Residence)
